About Pilates Plus Physiotherapy for Deep Gluteal Pain Syndrome

Do I need a doctor's referral to start Pilates Plus physiotherapy if I have Deep Gluteal Pain Syndrome?

Yes. Unlike other countries such as Australia, you are required to obtain a Dr’s referral letter to attend Physiotherapy sessions in Hong Kong.

Pilates Plus focuses on correcting muscle imbalances around the hip, activating weak or inhibited muscles and releasing or inhibiting tight or overactive muscles. Once this has been achieved, the focus will shift to training correct movement patterns and gradually increasing the load to the  hip region.

Everyone is different. Usually clients understand and are able to self-correct their specific dysfunctional movement patterns within 5 sessions. In general, it takes between 8-12 sessions to make the changes automatic.

Pilates Plus always starts with training the correct activation of muscles around the spine then hip. Once this has been achieved we use the Pilates equipment to provide more challenges to the control and finally introduce specific stretching or releasing techniques to the tight or overactive muscles.

YES!  In the acute stages we work with hands on therapists to relieve the acute pain and then set about rebuilding the control around the hip and spine.
