PILATES PLUS

by Judith Gould

Judith Gould, an Australian-trained physiotherapist with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and honours degree from the University of Queensland (1987), founded Pilates Plus, leveraging over 35 years of experience to transform pain management and posture.

After starting her career in public hospitals in Queensland, she moved into private practice working with work-related injuries as well as with the Newcastle National Basketball League, specializing in sports injuries, and treatments like hydrotherapy and ACL recovery. After working in Darwin, Judith travelled overseas and while working in Saudi Arabia she focused on ACL pre and post rehabilitation. Arriving in Hong Kong in 1994, Judith continued her academic focus and contributed to Pilates research at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and completed a Master of Philosophy.

Today, she specializes in her signature Pilates Plus method and was the first to take Onero™, out of Australia. Onero™ is an award-winning evidence-based exercise program proven to help men and women with osteoporosis and osteopenia.

Learn More about Pilates Plus

What is the difference between Pilates Plus and regular pilates?

Pilates Plus is a tailored approach to Pilates, developed by physiotherapists, that focuses on individual needs and conditions, particularly for rehabilitation, injury prevention, and pain management. Regular Pilates is general fitness-focused, often taught in group classes, and emphasizes core strength, flexibility, and posture.

Yes. Unlike other countries such as Australia, you are required to obtain a Dr’s referral letter to attend Physiotherapy sessions in Hong Kong.

Pilates Plus benefits individuals with injuries, chronic pain, post-surgery recovery needs, or specific physical conditions. It’s ideal for those seeking personalized, physiotherapist-guided exercise for rehabilitation and improved movement.

Pilates Plus can help manage pain, improve mobility, and support recovery by addressing the root causes of your injuries. However, it may not fully resolve all issues on its own. It’s best combined with professional medical advice and treatment for optimal results.

Pilates Plus should not cause pain. The focus is on controlled, gentle movements tailored to your body’s needs. If you feel pain during a session, it’s important to inform your physiotherapist so adjustments can be made to avoid injury.

If you have existing injuries or medical conditions, Pilates Plus can be modified to suit your specific needs. A qualified physiotherapist will design a program that focuses on your rehabilitation, ensuring exercises are safe and effective while considering any limitations or precautions.
